"A college born from the belief that every woman in Shadbagh deserves her rightful place in Pakistan's intellectual landscape."

How It Began

The Founding
of GCW Shadbagh

Founded in 1982 under the auspices of the Punjab Higher Education Department, Government Graduate College for Women Shadbagh was established with a singular, resolute purpose: to bring the transformative power of formal higher education within reach of women in one of Lahore's most vibrant yet underserved communities.

In those foundational years, pioneer educators devoted themselves to establishing not merely an institution, but a living tradition — one built on the conviction that every woman deserves a space to think, question, grow, and lead. The first graduating class became living proof of what was possible.

Thousands of young women have walked these halls and gone on to serve their families, communities, and nation with great distinction.

From a modest beginning with a handful of classrooms, GCW Shadbagh has grown into the academic heartbeat of an entire neighbourhood — a place where ambition is not just welcomed, it is nurtured into something extraordinary. College Chronicle, 1982

Today the college stands as a testament to the enduring belief that to educate a woman is to elevate an entire society — and that no dream is too large for a woman with the right foundation beneath her feet.

Educating a woman does not educate one person — it educates a family, a community, and a generation yet to come.
